Your next choice will be WHERE to stay in Los Cabos, as there are so many wonderful options. The Cabo marina and downtown areas are so much fun to walk around and explore (prime people watching!).
Where to stay in Los Cabos
Do you like a vibrant nightlife and seemingly endless activities? Cabo San Lucas will be the ticket. Or do you prefer a more quiet, slower pace? Is the charm of a traditional Mexican town as well as breathtaking beaches without crowds more your vibe? San Jose del Cabo will be a better match. Perhaps a mix of both? The great news is these two cities are just 20-30 minutes apart, with fabulous lodging/dining options also available in the “corridor” area between.
Cabo San Lucas Hotels
Cabo is home to countless luxury resorts and accommodations and is about a 30 minute ride/drive from the San Jose del Cabo Airport. On the southernmost tip of the peninsula, Nobu Hotel has gorgeous beach views. The hotel has 200 guest rooms and suites, meeting and event spaces, retail shopping, pools, private cabanas, plus a variety of bars and dining options, including a restaurant on the beach! You may not want to leave the resort, but if you do, the busy marina and downtown nightlife are just a short drive away.
Pueblo Bonito Los Cabos Beach Resort Is described as a Mediterranean Style accommodation overlooking Cabo’s Sea of Cortez, offering full-service amenities. Casually elegant with all-inclusive ease, this ocean-front property overlooks the famous Medano Beach, providing great views of Land’s End.
For oceanfront luxury, check out Grand Solmar at Lands End Located on a private Pacific Ocean beachfront, within walking distance of downtown Cabo, this resort has a collection of suites, penthouses, infinity pools and a spa. The Grand Solmar restaurants have adopted a philosophy of ecologically responsible agriculture, working with local vendors to bring the freshest flavors. An All-Inclusive Plan is also available.
Los Cabos Corridor Hotels
One of the outstanding corridor options is the Rosewood Resort Las Ventanas al Paraiso. This property is much admired for its architecture and nestles into the natural slope and contours of the land. Las Ventanas offers suites and villas, as well as several restaurants. We stumbled upon the Sea Grill there many years ago (our first ever meal in Los Cabos) and still talk about that dining experience.
One and Only Palmilla has an amazing view of the Los Cabos landscape and beachfront access to one of the few swimmable beaches in the entire region. Rooms, suites and villas are available, as well as restaurants, pools, spa and a 27-hole Jack Nicklaus designed golf course.
On the corridor closer to Cabo San Lucas is The Cape, A Thompson Hotel. The Cape is a boutique hotel offering rooms, suites, and villas that all have unobstructed views. The property has two pools (one with a swim up bar – always a bonus!), diverse dining options, a spa and a fitness center.
San Jose del Cabo Hotels
Toward the end of the corridor into San Jose del Cabo is Cabo Surf Hotel. This property houses a small boutique hotel, a surf school, a spa and one of my favorite Los Cabos restaurants (7 Seas Seafood Grille). The entrance is right past a curve on the highway and may be easy to miss. Once you enter the resort, the highway is forgotten as you see all that this gem has to offer.
One of the more trendy hotels in the area is Hotel El Ganzo. A bit out of the way but a short drive to San Jose del Cabo, this hotel is unique, very sophisticated and offers a variety of luxury rooms and suites. They have Music and Art Residency Programs (Ganzo X) and are currently celebrating their 10 year anniversary.
In the charming center of San Jose del Cabo is El Encanto Inn and Suites. A boutique hotel and spa, it is home to another favorite restaurant – Habaneros. This is a convenient location to check out (on foot!) all that downtown San Jose del Cabo has to offer. Restaurants, stores, and Thursday night art walks are all worth exploring. This hotel is owned by a 5th generation local woman and offers a variety of suites.
Los Cabos VRBO
Another option not to be overlooked is renting through VRBO. Everytime we have visited Los Cabos, we have used VRBO with fantastic results. This has provided us with affordable accommodations in a variety of settings (beachfront, on a golf course). We like having a kitchen as well as other condo amenities. Having the freedom to explore area restaurants rather than all-inclusive dining is more appealing to us as well. We carefully read reviews prior to booking and have yet to be disappointed.
Wherever in Los Cabos you choose to stay, you will have access to fabulous tours and transportation options to explore other areas. One thing to keep in mind – if swimming in the ocean is important to you, there are few swimmable beaches. We have found that whether or not a property has access to a swimmable oceanfront is clearly stated in their promotional materials.
